North Harrow Community Library is run entirely by volunteers. How can you help?
Volunteer your time
Do you have some spare time to help us out? We would love to hear from you. Without volunteers our Library simply could not stay open – so your time is one of the most valuable things that you can give.
Why volunteer?
Volunteering can enrich your life in many ways.
- It is great for your CV. Working at the Library will help you build up your skills and experience so you can impress future employers.
- It gets you out of the house. Joining our family of volunteers has helped lots of us to find a purpose and do something really worthwhile with our spare time.
- It helps the community. Having the Library open again in North Harrow makes a big difference to local residents. Being a part of it is very rewarding!
What could you do for us?
Running a Library involves many different jobs. There is bound to be a task that is just right for you. Here are just a few of the activities that our volunteers do:
- Checking out books at the front desk.
- Sorting out donated books.
- Cataloguing books and putting them on the computer system.
- Running the Children’s Library.
- Cleaning.
- Designing posters.
- Applying for funding.
- Organising events (when government guidelines allow!).
- Updating the website and social media.
- Taking care of IT.
Even if you cannot see anything that you might enjoy, it is still worth getting in touch to see if we have a job for you. Our volunteer co-ordinator is great at matching jobs to people!
Volunteer in person
Many of our volunteers work regular shifts in the Library. Even if you can only spare a morning or afternoon once a fortnight, we would love to add you to our rota!
- Join the team and become one of our regular volunteers.
- Learn how a library is run and get work experience.
- Work on the desk or in the back room.
Volunteer at a distance
Unable to come to the Library in person but still want to help? There may be something you can do for us from home.
- Are you crafty? Perhaps you could make cards or gifts for us to sell in the Library.
- Great with words? Help us update our website.
- Head for business? Get involved with planning and strategy.
